PayPal Express 10486 Error handling

PayPal has indicated that about 5% of our PayPal Express orders are failing with error 10486. PayPal said with this error the user should be redirected back to PayPal with the same token to select another funding source. Here's their documentation page:

When the user is returned to the PayPalExpressCheckout.aspx page they see this:

If they click on the "Retry PayPal Request" button, it returns back to the error page with "Invalid Data". The problem is that the Able order has already been completed but is marked PENDING. The basket is empty which is what is needed for the SetExpressCheckout function to redirect the user back to PayPal.

Any thoughts on how to work around this?

Hello,

What version of AbleCommerce are you using?

On the Configure > Store > General settings page, what option is selected for the Checkout settings?

We're running R6. The checkout options that are checked:

Allow Guest Checkout
Limited Guest Checkout
Enable Customer Comment

The Ignore Failed Payments is NOT checked.

Sorry, I should have been more specific.

What is the setting for "Order Payments"? You should see an option 'Do not create order unless it has a successful payment'.

Also, R6 was released nearly 4 years ago, and since then, we have upgraded the PayPal integration.

In R6 there isn't a DO NOT CREATE option, but there is something similar. Here are our checkout options:

Our site has a lot of customizations to it's not an easy thing to update to R12.

Have you seen the info about AC patches for Paypal? They only go back to R9. Your Paypal might stop working in June.

Web2Market has been creating patches for older versions of AC. I have done them for 7.0.4 and 7.0.7 and will be doing one for Gold R4. We could do one for Gold R6. If interested, you can contact bKort@web2market.com.
