Store wide discount issues

Post by compunerdy » Wed Nov 22, 2017 12:56 pm

I know this has been brought up before and the given solution is to use a storewide global discount but I see a issue with this..unless I am doing something wrong.

If you give a discount for all groups it will show the discount if logged in or not but this allows customers that already have volume discounts to stack. If I select to only offer it to default users then they cannot see the pricing unless they log in first.

Am I doing this wrong somehow?

Tim,

I'm still trying to get my head around this. When you have multiple global discounts active, they do stack. I think it's always been this way, but I would need to find AC7 to confirm for certain.

Now, if you have discounts set at the category or product level, these over-ride the global discount. This is the discount that is shown on the product page.

If you make a discount specific to a user group, then you will only see the discount if logged in.

Maybe you can explain your goal here and we can find a solution.

Thanks
Katie

I use the discounts all the time and they work fine.. the problem is when offering a storewide sale and using a discount to do that which has been AC's solution in past responses.

If I setup a global discount.. everyone can see it even when not logged in, the problem is that the other discounts then stack.
If I setup a global discount only for default users it will not show unless they log in.

So either we need a different way to do a storewide sale or make it so when default user is the target of the discount it will show when users are not logged in.

Do you have multiple global discounts running at the same time?
If I setup a global discount only for default users it will not show unless they log in.
What was the end goal by assigning the discount to this group? When you do this, the discount shouldn't appear unless the user is logged in. That is the idea of using groups with discounts.

I have discounts for certain users.. If I then enable a global discount they get both discounts.. So I cannot use a global discount which is why I tried to use a discount only for the default user group.

I am not sure how else to explain this but your given solution for a storewide discount to use a global discount does not work if you already have discounts in place is my point and what I am looking for a solution for.

Hi Tim,

After doing some testing with multiple global discounts running, it seems that they do stack-up. I need to go back to an AC7 install and do some testing. I'm curious if it's always been this way.

Thanks

It is not just a issue with that though... it is also that a non global will stack with a global. If it just used only the highest discount that would solve my issue as well.

Interesting. I've never seen this happen. If a discount is applied at the category or product level, it over-rides the global discount.

Might have described that wrong.. What I called non global is non global as far as the customers but is global for the products. So if I give a global 15% coupon to a specific customer and then later have a 10% global sale then that customer gets both discounts.

Is this going to be added as a bug or do I need to put this in as a feature request?

I'm not sure, but if you are willing to write up a good description of what you believe the problem is, and also include the steps to reproduce the issue, I'm happy to take a look at this again.

I thought we had covered it pretty good..but here is a summary..

Create a 15% wholesale discount (Discount Scope, Global) for customer A (Groups, selected groups).
Now create a 15% store wide sale discount (Discount Scope, Global) that applies to everyone (Groups, all groups).

Customer A will now get 30% off.

Aah yes. Thank you. I remember this now. Sorry....these last months have been really busy.

I would consider it a bug in business logic, but let me put together some information for the development team. We need an expert opinion on this.

The current behavior of having multiple discounts is to combine them. This is by design. I understand that in your situation it doesn't work out so well. The only way around this is to create additional features for Discounts, and add an option that would prevent discounts from being combined with other discounts. Similar to how a coupon works now. We can't just change the business logic of discounts in a patch. This has been added as a feature request for a future release.

This was asked about over a year ago and your solution was to use storewide discounts.. obviously that is not a viable solution with the way it is currently setup. So basically as is if you use discounts for multiple customers then there is no way to have a store wide sale without requiring a code.

EDIT.. This has been a feature request since 2013.. https://ablecommerce.uservoice.com/foru ... e-discount

Yes, we realize the discount feature needs to be improved. As I said in my last post, we have already included this as a feature request for a future version.

Knowing that the discounts combine, can you lower the member discount, so the total of the two is what you ultimately want to offer the membership group?

For example, something like "Members get an extra 10% off"....

The problem is I have a lot of wholesale customers who get say 10% or 15% off all the time. If I do a sale where everyone gets 10% off for example then those people now get 20% or 25% off.
