No export of category data?

The AbleCommerce data exchange is a useful feature for importing and updating data. The Data Exchange feature (just like the 7.0.x data port) is only supported via the forums or paid support.

No export of category data?

It does not seem to export the category descriptions, etc. Or am I missing a setting?

Sorry I missed this message. I am just trying to export all of my categories with the descriptions, titles, keywords, etc. I am on Gold R6 using the Data\Export...no options for just categories.

Hi Chris,

Sorry, but the export of categories is not something we've added yet. You are welcome to request it using the green Feedback button. It seems like a good feature to add. The only export options we have in R6 are for Orders, Products, Product Variants, and Worldship data.

I am thinking of checking the database to see where that is stored since I have full access to the SQL server. I am guessing most of it is in a table.

Got the category data out of the categories table, imagine that :-). However, it doesn't contain the URL for the category. Anyone know what table those are stored?

I checked that table only contains any URLs that I manually typed in the custom URL field. I am guessing the category URLs aren't stored anywhere. I am assuming they are generated via logic in the code somewhere unless a custom URL is specified then it references that table. I found an alternate way to get the URLs but not from the system (had to go to Google for it :-)).

That's correct. All catalog objects (products, categories, webpages, and links) are generated automatically using the Title field and Store URL.

Katie, this Miles Sandin. You helped me a few weeks ago when I was struggling with export/import (R8 Gold). I'm progressing in my quest but now I have another issue. Is there any way to have export/import work with tab separated values in lieu of comma separated values? Reason being, in our description field, for many parts there are commas. Thus the csv file gets messed up during processing.

Hi Miles,

When you import products, there is a data format section (2nd page of import wizard) which allows you to choose from 4 delimiters (comma, semicolon, tab, and pipe).
