Holding order for manual shipment calculation

Post by Lakemaster » Wed Aug 13, 2008 9:49 pm

My client has many products that have parts that ship in multiple boxes. Sometimes multiple shippers. For example a large scale may ship DHL freight but the indicator that goes along with it might ship via UPS as to not get damaged. Both shipments are considered the same product ID (just two parts). Because of the frequent change in shipping rates he had rather just assign the shipping charges after the order has been placed but the purchaser and complete the order himself through the checkout process after the customer is notified of the shipping charges.

Is this possible? Or does AC 7.0 have capability that accomodates this another way?

Yes this is possible. For multiple shipping of different parts of a product, you can configure the kits in AbleCommerce. The customer will place the order with the normal checkout process, while admin can process the shipping on admin side and create the multiple shipping for an order. Admin can also select different shippers as well for different shipments.

Would it be possible for AC7 to allow a customer to choose whether to calculate Shipping at time of purchase AND provide the option to have it calculated after the sale? Not that a customer could choose both, but simply provide the opportunity to select one based on their time-frame for this information. We have some large items that might have to be shipped by freight, but the majority of our components are shippable through UPS or FedEx. Obviously the manual shipment method will provide very accurate costs, so this is something my company would like to look into.

There is not 'out of the box' solution for this but you can achieve the desired results with some customization. Depending on how you want this to work you can customize the checkout page as well as order manager in merchant console.
