Setting up product pages

I have a situation where I have to set up product pages that have to be one product page per product. It has to be this way due to the html involved and can't be done as products are usually done. So I have created all my pages based on the basic product page, by making my new page, copying in the html from the product page to create it, and adding it to my site. Now when i go into the admin section of each product, I can't see my product pages that i have created to set a page with my product. They all come up as basic product. Even when i go into a current page, to try to set it there, my new pages do not show up in the drop down list to select. I know I could go into the database and set the display page there, but that brings up another question. What should I name my pages so able works correctly? Do I need to add the product id to the name?

Sorry for the post, I saw off the wiki for category pages, and figured out how to do it.
