Kit Products and Cost of Goods Sold
Kit Products and Cost of Goods Sold
Hello...
I am interested in tracking profits and losses from daily sales reports. The problem I am having is this:
For any item that I have setup as a kit with multiple quantities, the cost of goods sold ends up being recorded as 0.
One example, I have a product called GLB Algae-X, that I sell in both a single (1 qt) size, and a case of 12 X 1 qt. bottles. Neither of these kit component products have any COGS recorded in the OrderItems table after a sale. Only products that I've sold that are single, non-kit products seem to store this information.
My boss absolutely requires this information, and, as our cost of goods for each item changes each time we recieve a shipment, we can't just pull it from the product table.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Kit Products and Cost of Goods Sold
What version of AC7 are you running?
Re: Kit Products and Cost of Goods Sold
7.0, latest version. I haven't installed all the files in the SP1 yet, because I have launched the site already, and don't want break anything. Is that an issue that was fixed in the update? I've seen that certain kit features in the reports are said to be fixed, but, does that mean that the recorded COGS in OrderItems is fixed, or, do the reports only reflect the product's current COGS in general, rather than what it was at the time of purchase?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Each of the parts in the kit should be being billed out on the invoice with a price. Do you have your kit items configured with prices or with 0.00? I am not positive the reports in AC7 will calculate this correctly but I think they should if your kits items are being billed out on the invoice with prices.
Re: Kit Products and Cost of Goods Sold
I am getting the price just fine.... It's the cost of goods sold that is not showing up. You can't see it from the reports explicitly, but, the field exists in the OrderItems table, and is used to figure the profit on the daily and monthly sales reports. Profit = TotalAmountCharged - (COGS + Shipping + Tax).
That is what is not showing up. You can tell, if your Products and Profits column are about the same number.

Re: Kit Products and Cost of Goods Sold
I am not sure as for me I didnt even set up all of my products using the COGS. Once I export them to quickbooks I can do a lot more with the numbers than I ever could in AC so I didnt bother.
I think this is the same problem as using options..you can set them as having specific COGS etc but in most AC7 reports all they show is the main item and not the option items.

Re: Kit Products and Cost of Goods Sold
Scott,
I set up a product and tested it and it did not calculate correctly on the report for me either. I would post a bug report.
What makes it even more confusing is if one of the kit items is a option of another item it has a COGS at the option level but it can also be set at the main item level. This porbably needs to be changed like the inventory option so that if you are setting COGS at the option level then the option is not available at the main item level.
