Tax Rules and Zip Codes

Post by sschlager » Mon Sep 29, 2008 11:50 am

I am setting up the Tax Rules and I am having a hard time getting the zip codes to work. In the state of Idaho the zip codes start at 83200 and end at 83988. How do I setup the zip code field so I do not have to put in each zip code? I tried following the instruction with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know if the Tax Rules section has any bugs? I have been entering the zip codes into the field and when I went to test random zip codes to make sure it worked and ran across most of them that didn't. I found out that I can put in 42 zip codes. Zip code 43 and higher do not work. Whats the deal?

In my opinion I think if someone is from ID no matter what the zip code is, the tax should be applied, not by zip code. Anyway, still have the same problem and no solution.

You are correct, at 43 it is a no go. Simple solution is to create a second rule. My state requires reporting of taxes for a county number. So #18 is county X. If county X has more than 42 zip codes in it then I created 18(a) and 18(b). Works perfect.

Unfortunately you have to know every single zip for every tax zone. Ohio (which is where I am) has different sales tax amounts for every darn county. Took me awhile but it does work flawlessly.

Ohio's just a buffer state to keep the East Coast riffraff out of the real midwest :P

Judy:

It would be my pleasure. However and this might sound stupid..... I don't know how to pull the table down into a spreadsheet format.

Databases are not my strong suit.

If you open the table and highlight all the rows, you should be able to copy it into excel.
Thanks

Ya.... That doesn't work. I loose the the formatting of the zip code field ,probably due to the fact that they are all separated by coma's. If I copy and paste them one at a time I can use the text import wizard but that is pretty time consuming.

OK, thanks for trying anyway. I don't want to ask you to spend a lot of time on it.
