Search Engines - Migrating From 5.5 to 7.0

Post by Redcell » Wed Oct 01, 2008 12:53 am

Okay, we are just about convinced that we should upgrade to 7.0. However we rank pretty well on the major search engines right now.
We know that 7.0 has some great SE friendly features, but we are curious if we are going to take a big hit in rankings when we migrate our website to 7.0.
I guess this post is aimed at stores that have migrated from 5.5 to 7.0. We are curious how bad the search engine damage was (if any) and how long it may have lasted. And we would also like to know if you are seeing better rankings with 7.0 than you were with 5.5.
Our honest opinion is that 7.0 will create a greater shopping experience for our customers and translate into better sales anyway. Regardless of what any search engines think.
Obviously this migration should maybe wait until after the holidays, as you can never tell how long the search engines can leave you floundering.

Hello Nick,

With the preserve ID feature of the data client, your links inside of google will all translate to 7.0 so shouldn't see a hit from google. Yes, I'd wait until after Christmas as 5.5 is still a fine application.
Thanks for your support

Thanks Mike.
We have plans on upgrading at the beginning of the year.
