Abandoned Baskets Sales Tax Added

Post by triplw » Wed Jun 10, 2009 7:41 am

After upgrading to 7.0.3 all abandoned baskets are having sales tax added even if they aren't in the taxable zone. This is serious because when people go back to their basket they are not wanting to check out with the tax added. Can anyone please help?

If those sales tax entries are obsolete then if customer will revisit their basket, application will recalculate it and remove out of date data.

I tested it yesterday by adding something to my basket and there was no tax added. I didn't check out and returned to my basket today and tax is on the order today. So ALL customers who are saving their baskets then retuning to them later are having sales tax added even though it shouldn't be.

When I look at the abandoned basket EVERY basket has tax added even though only a very small percentage of our customers should pay tax.

If people check out right away there is no problem.

Settings:
Taxes Enabled: Yes
Shopping Display: Show Prices swithout Tax
Invoice Display: Show Taxes in Summary only
Tax Column: Unchecked

Tax Codes: Taxable (all products)

Tax Name: Indiana Sales Tax
Apply To Tax Codes: Taxable
Tax Rate 7%
Address Filter: Apply Only To Selected Zones
United States - Indiana checked
Address Nexus: Customer Shipping Address
Group Filter: Do Not Apply To Selected Groups
Wholesale checked

My account has an Arkansas address and is group Wholesale. When I first put items in the basket the taxes are not added which is correct. When I go back after loging out and get the saved basket, taxes are added on all products.

I believe this is something similar we discussed here.

When customer haven't specified their address application calculates and shows tax depending upon default warehouse.

I have an account with my address in it. We have customer who put items in their baskets then came back the next day and added more items to their baskets and checked out. They were charged sales tax on the items from the first day and not the secoind day. The problem is when someone with an account (address is already entered) puts items in their basket and does not check out right away. When they return at a later date erroneous tax is added.

Mazhar,
I did apply your fix from the other post. If someone has an account but they don't log in until check out, they are erroneously charged tax.
I have opened a support case about this.

Only about 1% of my orders are taxable. So I would the default to be not taxed.
