Basket causing decreased load times???

Post by krittleb » Thu Oct 08, 2009 8:42 pm

I keep thinking that we have gotten all of the bugs worked out but am starting to wonder if that ever is the case

Our newest issue (I think that it is new as our customers have just started to complain about it) is that when either too many items or even small amounts of particular items get placed in the shopping cart, the page loads absolutely fall off the charts. We are now getting customers calling every day because they think something is wrong with their internet and they need to have us enter it for them. It took me over an hour to enter an order for a customer today with 55 line items! We have tried to stream-line our product pages so that it should have taken only 15 minutes or less. Most of the time was spent looking at the spinning "processing" image.

The site hums along very quickly until the items go in the cart. Then it slows down. If you empty the cart, it goes back up again.

The worst suspect items are the solid color grosgrain ribbon which has two sets of very lengthy drop-downs.

Has anybody ever encountered this problem or have an idea of what could be causing it?

Or is there another post that I missed regarding this topic?

Thanks for any help!

Two sites I know of have had that problem in 7.0.3 if there are a large number of tax rules. The first time I ran across it, the site had around 500, if I remember correctly. Some on the forum posted recently that they had thousands of tax rules and had to go back to an earlier build of Able. On the site that we had, we had to narrow the tax rules down to just a few to get decent performance while adding to the basket.
