AbleCommerce and DSL problems?

Post by Claudio » Tue Feb 09, 2010 2:49 pm

Does anyone know of a problem AbleCommerce has with DSL internet access? Our AbleCommerce (7.0.3) used to work without problems. Then, we moved office and switched to a new ISP about 2 wks ago (from cable modem to DSL), and now periodically the site is unresponsive, even when the server can be logged onto remotely (via Remote Desktop). When this happens, the server is found to have lost internet connectivity (that is, the server can be connected to, but it cannot access the internet beyond the subnet). Another web server connected to our same internet connection (on a different router and IP) has no problems. We replaced cables, routers, everything. I personally doubt the problem is in AbleCommerce (it used to work). I doubt it is configuration (it is intermittent). So I was wondering if AbleCommerce needs anything beyond the basic manila TCP/IP from the internet connection, which maybe our new ISP does not support properly (our old ISP works fine). If nobody is aware of anything like that, then if we find no solution, we will switch back to our old ISP and put our AbleCommerce server back on it. AbleCommerce is running on Windows 2008 std. ed., connecting to a Windows Server 2003 std. ed. machine on the same router running SQL Server Express 2008, containing its database (we never changed that arrangement).

Maybe the App_Data/commercebuilder.lic file has the old ip address in it?

commercebuilder.lic file has the domain name, rather than the IP address (we licensed on a domain name rather than a fixed IP). But that appears to explain why the server's loss of internet connectivity caused loss of ability to access the web site (AbleCommerce could not resolve the domain for licensing purposes). Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

On a side question: suppose that the server hosting AbleCommerce loses ability to connect to the intenet outbound, but connections are still able to be made to the server inbound from the internet. If then, AbleCommerce fails to check licensing when its app pool starts (due to inability to reach the DNS server), what happens? Does the client side simply receive no response, and will AbleCommerce simply try again on the next web request, until it is able to check licensing and reach the DNS server?

Hello,

The license is created during installation or key update this is the ONLY time a connection to AbleCommerce is needed.
Thanks for your support
