How do I test new Integrated Carrier?

How do I test new Integrated Carrier? Do I have to take the store offline? Curretnly the carrier is still in test mode so it doesn't how in the actual store. Help! Don't know what to do now...

I just use the Shipping Estimator on the front-end.

When I add a shipping method, I make it available only to admins while I test it. If I need to take it one step further, I'll use the company credit card to make test purchases, using the new shipping method. The owner doesn't mind, to him it is essentially transferring funds from his card to his store. This way you can see how the new carrier behaves from estimate to checkout to processing.
