Orders admin shows incorrect Shipment column value

If an order is placed with no shippable items, the orders admin screen shows "Unspecified" as the Shipment value.

If the site admin clicks the Details link to view the order and then returns to the orders screen again, the Shipment column value is changed and now correctly says "Nonshippable".

Viewing an order should never change anything about that order. Hopefully this is just a page_load bug and not the view functionality altering the order in any way.
