Variants and add to cart button

Post by rusackson » Thu Dec 20, 2007 12:19 pm

Most of the products we will be selling have variants, but no add to basket button displays until the variant choices are made. Wondering if there could be a way to have a default variant chosen. Kind of like how you have bundles and kits setup, to do so.

I think it would be just visually more clear that you have choices and you can add to cart. I think being able to have selected default variants would be a great resolve.

This has been brought a few times, but I don't know is if it's getting fixed in the next release.

I switched to product templates because they render right away and allow a default value. But they won't swap the sku like variants do though, so a few of my products still use variants.

Hope they fix it though. Would also be nice if the SKU displayed were updated as well. I don't think it changes as the variant selection is made.

what about these guys

So, here is a site from the ablecommerce directory of ablecommerce sites they are selling a T-shirt, has variants of size, and there is a default size chosen and the buy button is up.

http://www.diamondbacktactical.com/T-Sh ... 33C97.aspx

I can't imagine they would have kitted all the separate size shirts and then hid the individual shirts from searches. That would be a hell of a work around.

Hmmm hard to tell. There's no variation for color.

I could do what they've done with a product template. The question is what they're getting on the back end. Is it a different SKU or just that sku with a product option of size?

There's no doubt you could modify the code to accomplish it now. I would if I had the time. But I want to wait for the AC7 updates to come out.

That is 5.5 version of Able that they are using. We are able to do things like that in it- all the options always showed. And you we able to have kitted items where the customer didn't have to purchase one of the items- as AC7 stands now, you can't do that. Here's a link on our site that has both options and kits- the size and color are the options, the custom name and number are a kit.
