Best practices question

I am throwing this out there. Has anyone done extended classes on the able classes? I am looking to build out a library of extended classes to do more things, or do some things differently than what able has/does, but I want to set this up so that when updates come out, i can incorporate them easily and not break anything. My thinking was to create another separate project that consists solely of my extended able classes inherited off the able ones, then with my code thrown in. As long as my refs are ok, this should work.

I am open to any suggestions, criticisms whatever on this idea.
