UPS Online Tools changes

Post by WylieE » Tue Nov 25, 2008 12:06 pm

We received an email from UPS that they will be making changes effective 1-March, 2009. I don't know if AC has received the notification, so I thought I'd raise the visibility here.

Email content:
You are receiving this communication to notify you of changes that could affect your UPS OnLine Tools beginning March 1, 2009. Action may be required to ensure that the change does not adversely impact your business and use of the tools.

On March 1, 2009, UPS is moving from unchained to chained Digital Certificates to improve security when using the Internet. The change requires your system to support the Secured Socket Layer (SSL) Version 3.0 to be compatible with the new Digital Certificates.
More info can be found here: http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/bussol ... index.html

AC - Will any changes be necessary?

The change requires your system to support the Secured Socket Layer (SSL) Version 3.0 to be compatible with the new Digital Certificates.
"Your system" is your server, not AbleCommerce. When your server connects to UPS's server, they will negotiate which SSL to use. Starting in March, UPS's server will insist on SSL 3.0. Happily, Windows Server supports SSL 3.0. The only caveat is that the server admin can disable SSL 3.0. I don't know why they would, but it is possible. So some time between now and March, you should ask your server admin if SSL 3.0 is enabled on the server so that it can talk to UPS's server which will require SSL 3.0.
