Prize redemption site / purchasing with points vs. dollars?

Post by VIPER7 » Thu Dec 13, 2007 3:09 pm

I have an existing website built in DotNet that allows my sales reps to earn points by completing various activities on the site - training, etc.

Would AbleCommerce (as an e-commerce style website) be able to allow my sales reps to shop for prizes to redeem on the site using points earned (through my existing site) versus using dollars?

I have to think I'm not the only one that has needed this before and it would be nice if we could find a package like AbleCommerce (with some customization / integration needed obviously) that we didn't have to fully develop 100%.

Help me not to have to "re-invent" the wheel here (hopefully)! Thanks!

What about creating a custom currency with a 1-to-1 exchange rate against the US dollar currency?

Then issue gift certificates to the sales reps in the amounts they've earned using the custom currency.

That allows tracking, limits expenditure to available balance and keeps it from having to require some form of payment authorization/capture.

I haven't studied currencies in great depth, but I can't imagine it'd be too hard to add a custom currency code.

The wording on the basic store shows:
"store name" conducts all transactions in US Dollar. For your convenience, you can view prices in your choice of the currencies below. Additional currencies are given as an estimate only and may not reflect the exact amount charged.

Is this estimate feature built in ... since I'm not seeing anything "below" I may have deleted something or forgot to turn it on?
