Canadian charge cards and PayPal

Post by AbleMods » Sat Jan 19, 2008 6:53 am

Anyone having trouble getting authorizations on Canadian charge card payments?

I've had some customers in Canada be unable to get their cards to authorize on my AC7 site. I can't say for sure that it's all Canadian orders, but there's definitely a pattern developing.

I'm just wondering if there's something special with handling their charge cards that might be preventing my site from accepting them.

It could very well be a PayPal thing, I'm not sure.

Customer today is saying he has a "Allied Irish Bank Laser card" and it won't approve for his purchase....

I'm at a loss as to what to do. Guess I could try taking it over the phone :?

Hello Joe,

According to wiki
Laser cards are not widely acceptable for online purchases made on sites operated outside the Republic of Ireland.

From what I'm reading I doubt it will work period online or over the phone. It's not like a visa/mc card.

Laser cards are not widely acceptable for online purchases made on sites operated outside the Republic of Ireland. For example, at present it is still not possible to use Laser with the Irish iTunes Music store (although it can be used to purchase hardware there). Also, Ryanair does not accept Laser payments at all.
It sounds like it is an Ireland only payment system.

Opps, sorry about the dup post. (I spent a lot of time trying to get the url to work) If the order is any substantial amount you can perhaps talk to the customer about doing Western Union Wire.

LOL!

It's an Irish card, not Canadian. The customer made a reference to a "cheque" and I've only seen Canadians use that term. I presumed he was Canadian.

It's a $12 order for fishing times. He can pony up a regular credit card - it's not worth the trouble for anything else for the money involved.

Maybe they get alot of Canadians in Ireland
