SiteMap Error

Post by Opeyemi » Sun May 25, 2008 5:26 pm

I am getting the following error when I tried to add sitemap:

General HTTP error: 404 not found
We encountered an error while trying to access your Sitemap. Please ensure your Sitemap follows our guidelines and can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit.

What I am doing wrong?
PS: My site have over 100000 items

That's a pretty brief explanation of the problem. We're going to need alot more background and details to be able to help you.

What site is giving you the error?

Have you checked that the sitemap file exists in your storefront?

Do you get any errors when you generate the sitemap file?

Do you generate a compressed or uncompressed sitemap file?

Have you tried telling the site that generated the error to use a compressed file versus uncompressed file?

The site is http://www.musicimport.biz/Default.aspx

Yes, the sitemap file exists.

I did not get any error when I generate the sitemap

I generate both the compress & uncompress file

I get the error message while trying to use bot compress & uncompress file.

thanks,

Ok so to understand correctly, you get the error when you try to generate the sitemap file in the AC7 admin screen? I'm not clear on exactly where the error is occuring....

I was able to generate the sitemap but I am getting error message on Google.

I just read this on http://www.sitemaps.org/protocol.php
"each Sitemap file that you provide must have no more than 50,000 URLs and must be no larger than 10MB (10,485,760 bytes). If you would like, you may compress your Sitemap files using gzip to reduce your bandwidth requirement; however the sitemap file once uncompressed must be no larger than 10MB. If you want to list more than 50,000 URLs, you must create multiple Sitemap files."

My site have over 100,000 items and the program is creating just 1 file so it is not following the requirement.

Yes there is limit.

If AC7 isn't splitting the file up as it should, post a support ticket to them so they can get it on the bug list to fix.

In the mean time, you'll have to split the file manually into separate files that are within the limits established by the standard.
