Offering customer based discounts

Post by Brewhaus » Sun Jun 15, 2008 7:45 pm

Is there any way to give a discount to specific customers (I cannot find a way to enter this directly on their customer card). I could offer a discount to a specific group, but if we need to change the customer back to a standard customer, that does not appear to be an option as it seems that there is no user group that customers are put into when they first do business with you. Therefore, we cannot 'change them back' to standard customers.

Is there a way to have new customers automatically do into a user group? We could then create a group, and new customers would automatically be placed into the group with their first purchase.

Are you just giving them a discount on their first purchase? If so, you could create a one time use (per person) coupon code and send that code to the end user along with their registration email.

Otherwise, you could create new groups to your hearts content and then add the discount for each group. Then you could assign those customers to the new discount groups as needed.

I had thought of creating a new user group with a discount, and then moving the customer to that group so that they get an automatic, ongoing discount. The problem comes in when their time in that group runs out. Because new customers are not put into a default group, I can find no way to move them back to the original settings (short of possibly going into the SQL file and changing them).

Is there a way to either put them back into the default setting (ie. not a specified user group), or have all new customers automatically be placed into a user group by default? That way, we could just change the group that they belong to if reverting back to the default setting.

I haven't tried it out in practice, but I think all you have to do is edit the user (via the admin) and unselect any selected groups. Save the user, and then they are back at square one.

I could be wrong though.

That is the first thing that I tried, actually. You can change the selection in the box, but I could not find any way to clear the selection box entirely. Once you have clicked on a group, there does not appear to be any way to clear the box.

Strange, it worked for me ... i Ctrl - left clicked the only group selected for one of my users and then no groups were selected. I then saved the user and there were no selections in the group box.

My bad- I tried just about everything else that I could think of, but not Ctrl-left click. All is good in my little world again. Thanks.! :)
