Hi,
As title really. I want to be able to mask the real URL of my AbleCommerce installation using a CNAME in dns, this is so that clients to which I will provide a service only have their domain visible in the address bar. Unfortunately AbleCommerce is returning a HTTP 301 redirect to the real domain of the instalation.
I've done a quick search on the source and can't find any reference to where this might be coming from, so I assume it's deep in the bowels somewhere?! Is there any way around this? Please help!
Thanks,
Sean
Masking with CNAME causes 301 redirect real domain
Re: Masking with CNAME causes 301 redirect real domain
The license code issued to you from Able for your live installation is keyed to the domain to which you registered your purchase of AC7.
CNAME redirection will not be possible. AC7 will automatically redirect any HTTP hits to that domain name registered with your purchase.

Re: Masking with CNAME causes 301 redirect real domain
Hi there,
Thanks for the reply and explanation. That does make sense, but is it strictly necessary? What I mean is that I only have one installation of AbleCommerce on one physical server, does using CNAMEs actually break the licensing agreement? Surely how I choose to set my DNS up shouldn't have anything to do with my AbleCommerce license? I'd really love to try and work around this if possible...
Many thanks.

Re: Masking with CNAME causes 301 redirect real domain
Wow, ok so now I realise I can't even use subdomains? When asked what domain I would be running the software under, I gave "ethictrade.com" and now it seems that I can't even access "www.ethictrade.com"?!? Thats absolutely crazy, and it most certainly wasn't made clear to me when asked.. Maybe there was a warning there and I missed it?
I was asked for the "domain" I wanted to use, and that's what I gave, I wasn't asked for the "subdomain" I wanted to use under my domain. Maybe it's just me but I don't think it's unusual for a customer to assume they can run under "www"?!
Can I get an answer on this from Able staff on the forum please? If that's not possible I'll start a customer service ticket although I didn't miss the warning asking not to do both.

Hello,
From the key request. We do try to indicate what the key will 'respond' to. Sorry if there is any confusion.

Please request a key that you're going to use with your ssl. Typically it's recommended it start with www.Here is a new production key that will respond to "ethictrade.com"
Re: Masking with CNAME causes 301 redirect real domain
Perhaps it would be better if Able referred to the initial key request as the Fully Qualified Domain Name or FQDN.
This would eliminate any future confusion.
