AC7 not working on one computer

Post by Mike718NY » Fri Sep 19, 2008 3:49 pm

My client has problems displaying some pages like,
"Print Invoice" - computer just hangs then give a message:

sys.webforms page request manager
timeout session

Also, he can't display "Payment details" to see credit cards.

He has .net 2.0 installed, did all windows update,
has IE 7.
It is HP computer about 3 years old.
Any idea of what it could be? thanks

He wouldn't need .Net locally - that's only required if he's also hosting the web site locally.

It almost sounds as if he's got some IE add-ons installed on his PC. Loook for stuff like Yahoo toolbar, Google Desktop Search, etc and remove them. Basically anything that's an add-on to IE. You can disable IE add-ons by choosing the Tools, Internet Options menu and selecting the Programs tab - Add-ons button is at the bottom of that tab.

Try installing Firefox or the new Google browser and see if the behavior changes - at least then you know the issue can be narrowed down to IE exclusively.

If the site is not hosted locally then probably it will be some add-on or browser problem.

After trying everything we could think of, we
couldn't solve the problem so he bought a new computer,
thinking it was just that computer.

And now the new one is doing exactly the same thing!

He has a DSL modem and a router.
So it has to be something (I hope) to do with the router.

Was the new computer "clean" or did he reinstall some existing applications he needed BEFORE attempting the web site pages? If he installed anything after he got the new machine but before he tried the website, if could be that software.

What if he bypasses the firewall and plugs his NIC directly into the DSL modem - does that change anything?

Did it ever work? i.e. what's changed recently to result in the new behavior?

Excellent thinking Joe.
He's still using Compuserve to check his email. I told him many times to forget
about signing into compuserve and just use his browser.
It's like using AOL. Who uses aol anymore?
I'm going to have him uninstall that and see what happens. I'm betting that's it.

Code: Select all

I didn't get a chance to have him do that before he hung up - he wanted to call
the DSL company.

Never worked.

Compuserve

If it's an ISP-specific browser similar to AOL as you've described, that would be my primary suspect. I haven't seen a Compuserve install in ages.

Yank it out of there and switch to the regular browser. Easy to do, shouldn't take very long to test and it eliminates a major candidate for the issue.

Only other possibility is the DSL has some sort of dialer-app installed on the PC. Usually provided by the DSL provider, the app offers some insight into DSL connectivity but otherwise is useless. Most DSL systems I've installed didn't even require the app when it was provided; they just wanted it installed to provide additional marketing opportunities for the ISP

The problem was the DSL modem and/or router.
The phone company replaced both of them with one unit and it works now.
What a pain in the *** this was. :x

That's completely bizarre.

No kidding - what a pain that must have been.
