Hosting companies

Post by Reddirt » Tue Oct 28, 2008 7:31 am

I'm a developer and I want to use a shared webspace to host my development and testing.

I'm trying to decide which shared webspace hosting company to go with.
I'm looking at GoDaddy, DiscountAsp.net, easyCGI, BizHostNet, ...

Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks,
Reddirt

I've heard DiscountASP.net is good. GoDaddy seems to be slow in their response time. I use a developer package at Drundo.net

DiscountASP.net has poor performance with AC7.
For $30 a month, they are good for small applications that are not too database intenstive.
I used them at first and then switched over to Drundo.net, which has excellent
performance with AC7. It cost a little more (I think it's $60 a month - Silver package)
but the performance difference is night and day.

I love love love http://www.appliei.net -- their tech support, sales, entire staff is AWESOME.

Go Daddy is horrible. If you want to spend 30 minutes on hold just to tell their technical support what they need to do in order to help you, then go for it. I am about to the point that I will flat out refuse to work with anyone hosted with them. Not only that, but I had to migrate three SQL databases from them to another server and it literally cost me thousands of dollars because it was so hard to get the databases out.
