Corrupted screen draws, etc

Post by milstudy » Wed Dec 17, 2008 10:56 pm

Afternoon All,

newbie here... I have two problems that have my IT guru and I stumped.

After a period of time (days at most) the following occurs:

1. Website - pages take some time to display (or not at all). Refreshing may result in the page loading, or the code for the page displaying, or not at all.

2. Admin - display becomes corrupted with page code (see: http://web.aanet.com.au/adkastuff/FaultPic1.jpg and http://web.aanet.com.au/adkastuff/FaultPic2.jpg). Eventually, I can't even log on (see: http://web.aanet.com.au/adkastuff/FaultPic3.jpg)

I'm an ASP moron and although my IT guru (a network systems specialist) has overcome all previous hiccups, this one has him beat. It doesn't help of course that this problem rears its ugly head after the 30 day support has expired

My suspicion is that something is corrupting as time goes by. I've restarted the server and both the website and Admin work perfectly for a day or so, then begin to degrade. Obviously restarting the server daily is no solution.

So I'm asking for assistance from those who have already forgotten more about AbleCommerce than I'm ever likely to know...

Thanks in advance and regards,
Adrian

Have you added any Response.Writes anywhere in your code or do you have trace turned on anywhere? I've had that happen with Response.Writes I had put in for testing. Also, check the dates of your files if the display is OK, then becomes corrupt to see if any of them have changed.

Thanks for your quick response Judy.

Unfortunately, we have not added any Response.Writes and Trace is off.

I'm unlcear about checking file dates. Which files in particular?

Thanks,
Adrian

Usually I check them all, starting with the ones in the root, especially the web.config. After that, check the Admin folders, then on to the store folders.

Hi Judy.

Well I've checked all files and haven't found anything untoward. Any other suggestions?

Sorry, I'm stumped. You have probably tried different browsers, different computers, checked the site error log?

Okay, one more thing. Do any of your product or category names have apostrophes in them? I remember having a problem on an older version and had to patch it.

Hi Judy.

Thanks for persisting with me.

1. I had a '/' in a category name, now altered to '-'.

2. There were several similar error warnings in the App Log. This is the latest:

Have you had the error since you changed to a dash?

Hi Judy.

I've restarted the server, but it may take a while for any errors to manifest themselves. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks,
Adrian

Hi Judy, thanks for your patience.

Ok, I tried to trip the software up periodically throughout the day yesterday, but it worked perfectly.

Logged in today and back to square one!

These images show the types of errors coming up:

http://web.aanet.com.au/adkastuff/24DecFault2.jpg

I checked the error log after these events and the only error reported is below:

Event code: 3005
Event message: An unhandled exception has occurred.

The only other thing I've done since rebooting the server yesterday was to change some catergories/products from public to hidden.

There's also an Acronis backup scheduled for 0100 each day. The logs for that process show no errors.

Regards,
Adrian
