Buy $xx of products X, Y or get X product free

How do you set up "Buy $xx of product X, Y or Z and get a free gift?

Example: I sell work clothes. I would like to offer if a customer purchases $150 of work clothes, (but not any other products) than they get a free item, say a flashlight or something.

The purchase can be any combination of of work clothes but does NOT include other products.

Is this possible?

I tried that, but I couldn't get it to work. Probably because I don't know how to find the product ID in the Product table.

I don't think this is going to work anyway, because I need the offer to apply to:

1.) the purchase of one or more of a group of qualifying products, not simply one line item or the entire order
2.) a particular user group

Example:

Offer: If a qualifying customer purchases $150 of work clothes, they receive a free flashlight. This offer does NOT pertain to the purchase of goods other than work clothes.

A customer may purchase 1 pair of pants for $49.95 and one matching jacket for$119.95 for a total of $169.90. This purchase should qualify for the flashlight. But it seems AC only looks at Line items or the ENTIRE order. If the customer chooses the pants and some other item such as a tool, the purchase should NOT qualify.

I was wondering if the shipping coupon could be customized to pertain to a product instead of a shipping method. The customer could add the "Free" item to their basket and then enter their coupon code to get a 100% discount ont the Free item.

Does this make any sense?

I guess I have to assume you can't do this with Able Commerce.

Not with stock able, But im sure a developer could make code for that.
