More complete search?

I often search for things in the store, and they just dont come up at all. How can I increase what fields the search box looks at, or how it looks at them?

You can try * and ? wild cards with search as well. Where * means any number of any character and ? any single character.

I mean programatically. I seems to only look for product titles and nothing in the description. In short, the search kinda sucks. There has to be a better way.
