Full Text Searching cause Application Error on v7.03

Post by speedythinker » Fri Jun 05, 2009 1:55 pm

Hello:

I found that if I enabled the "Full Text Searching" under the Store set up, it works only if the search keywords are searchable (product tile contains those keywords), otherwise it will cause SQLClient application an error. For example, if there is an item name: 4ch remote control and if I entered 4ch wireless, it will result an application error. Therefore, I have disabled Full Text Searching in order for the search to be functioning. But it's weired that I can no longer enable that option. If I check mark the option again, and click Save, but it shows no check mark after screen refresh. Anyone know what's happening?

Some information:
Platform: Windows 2003 Server
Database: MS SQL Server 2005
Hosting company: Drundo.net

I'm wondering is I need to do someting on the SQL server to enable the Full Text Searching.

Thx
Speedy

There is a bug with the full text search using multiple words. Here is a patch:
http://bugs.ablecommerce.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8128
I was able to disable mine Ok after using it and enable it again, so I'm not sure what the problem would be with yours.

From the error log, I have this:

Could not create fulltext catalog ac_SearchCatalog
File 'sysft_ac_SearchCatalog' cannot be reused until after the next BACKUP LOG operation.

So, how do I start the next Backup log?

Are you on a hosted solution or do you control the sql server?

Unfortnately, it's hosted by someone far from reachable.
But I can open a ticket to make a request. What should I tell them then?

Thx

It may resolve itself overnight...many sysops configure backups to run automatically every night.

Thank you for all information. I found that that the option is too fancy to have
My host replied that that service is not available to a shared server.

Full Text search is only available on a dedicated MSSQL server instance under our private dedicated plans. For additional information please refer to:
http://www.NottotellWhoIsthisHost.net/h ... sting.aspx
Full Text Search is not available in a shared environment and we do not recommend enabling this ption.

By the way(sorry it's out of topic), anyone can suggest me a better performance web hosting for about $100/m or less?

I found that my site isn't running smooth from the current provider. It's not unusual that my site take over 30 seconds to show a page, I'm not talking about the 'wake up' time from the Idle on ASP.net. I'm talking about the time it takes from page to page AFTER the site has woke up. Plus, the FTP took forever to connect or connection broke if I need to do a full site back up. Plus, there about twice a month I could face "'service unavailable" or time out. They said that they can move me to a VPS for about $195/m but my site was just up for a few months and avenue isn't come up as good as it should. So I can't afford $195/m. Currently I'm paying $40 a month with 25GB traffic. Their Support is very good, it's one thing to keep me for almost 6 months by now

Thank you
Speedy

Web2Market plans start at $100 a month. There is no website hosting panel as at Drundo, but you will get a lot more personal attention if there is a problem. There is help available on weekdays and on weekends we rotate checking the help desk email at least every hour from 9-9 on Saturday and Sunday. A couple of the guys also get beeped if a server is acting up.

My first confusion is you were able to turn the option on and you received error messages that indicated the feature was working (broken as it was). So your host is fibbing.

As mentioned earlier, once a backup runs on your database automatically by the host the problem will resolve itself. I can't speak to this host. I know we do a backup every night. You should try turning the feature back on in a day or two.

OR

Does your host offer you the ability to back up the database or request a backup of the database?

EDIT: The site says they do daily tape backups. Try turning the feature back on around Monday and report back.
Cheers,
Logan

Hello Logan_AbleCommerce:
You're absolutely right! It's working now! It's very good that it could search any text from my web, excellence, wow I didn't know it works so good with the Full Text Search.

Thanks!

Is Full Text Search available now? If so, when did it become available and what version?

I upgraded AB from v7.02 to v7.03 and it recoverd from the crash after a service patched installed and waited for the operation of BACKUP Log completed. I don't know why my hosting told me that the Full Text Seach service is not available on a shared hosting server and it seems that it does. See my site: http://www.lightobject.com, it can search any text you see from the product. I like it very much!
