Available Flag for Variants in 7.0.1
Does anyone know if the Available field in the variants table works properly in version 7.0.1? It doesn't seem to be working for us but it's possible that it's due to code changes we made.
The way I understand that it is supposed to work is,
When a user selects an option from a dropdown list, AbleCommerce will use AJAX to filter the other options based on Availability.
We can see the AJAX call is being made when options are selected and the SKU and pricing information are being updated properly, but none of the options within the options are changing.
Thanks in advance for your help,
David O'Leary

It will filter the options based on availability only if inventory level is set on the options. Otherwise, you have to add the product to the cart to find out it's not available.

We do have the "Enable Inventory Management" box on the Configure->Store page checked. Is that what you mean?

No, you have to go in to each variant and set a quantity after you have set the product to tract inventory by variants. Then if the quantity is 0, the selection won't show in the drop downs.

We've got those values set correctly as well.
So, at the Product level, we've got Inventory Tracking set to "Track Variants"
At the variant level, we've got "Available" set properly and "In Stock" set to 0.

Some more insight, if we turn Allow Backorder off at the product level, then the dropdowns do filter properly. However, we want users to be able to order (on backorder) items that are out of stock but "Available". But they should never be able to choose items that are not Available.

You aren't doing anything wrong. The filter for available variants is not working like we intended. It is logged as bug 8066.

Re: Available Flag for Variants in 7.0.1
Is this fixed in 7.0.2 or 7.0.3? For the time being, it appears that we can just leave Allow Backorder set to false as this doesn't seem to be enforced, users can still order a product even if quantity is 0. Is that correct? Or is there a better work around? We're hoping to go live in the next couple days.

This is a serious bug in your system and I can't get a response on it to either my support case or to this forum thread?!?

The bug is corrected for the forthcoming release. It was not discovered until 7.0.3 was already published.

I don't have a support contract for the site where I need this fix. But since this is an acknowledged bug, it seems I should be able to get the fix. How will that work?

Re: Available Flag for Variants in 7.0.1
For customers who do not have a maintenance agreement, fixes for major bugs come through the release of service packs. We generally do not issue patches individually - there are certain exceptions made for instance in the case of security related bugs. There is also no guarantee a particular bug will be selected for inclusion in a service pack - that depends on severity of the bug, impact, and availability of workaround. Not every bug is patched.
There is also an incremental upgrade offered for merchants who did not purchase a subscription:
http://www.ablecommerce.com/AbleCommerc ... 67C51.aspx
In the meantime the workaround to the available flag is to enable product inventory without backorder. That will allow you to filter out the unavailable options. If the workaround is unacceptable, you will want to take this up in a support case.
