Google Apps with AC
Has anyone had success setting-up the server configuration of AC with a Google Apps account?
Thanks,

Re: Google Apps with AC
I had started using the email app because of emails getting blocked. I found out that the site had to have email run with ssl, which older versions of Able didn't have configurable.

@jmestep - Under Configure > Email > Settings > Server Settings are you able to use SMTP information from a Google Apps account?

I haven't tried it since I upgraded the site to a version that handled ssl email setting, but I was told earlier that it should work after the upgrade. There are also email settings that need to be changed elsewhere, but the hoster handles that for me.

Re: Google Apps with AC
Have you or others been able to get AC7.0.3 to connect and email via the Google Apps email service.
I've got the functioning settings from my email reader (Outlook 2003) duplicated in AC 7:
SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP Port: 465 SSL: ON
Username & Password entered.
I get the following response when doing a test:
Server configuration was updated but the test resulted in error: Request for the permission of type 'System.Net.Mail.SmtpPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.
I just switched email over to Google Apps from another service that was triggering too many false positive spams (and no management tools to adjust). AC7.0.3 was working with that service, but it was without SSL.
I haven't made any changes on the Google Apps side of the service, so if someone knows about necessary changes, any information would be appreciated.
Do the "General Settings" i.e. "Default From" & "Service From" address settings have any effect on the "Server Configuration" in AC7.0.3?
Thanks,
-Jeff

Re: Google Apps with AC
Hey Everyone,
A Google search for the error + Ablecommerce pointed me back to the other forum thread here: viewtopic.php?f=44&t=12359
The solution mentioned in the thread, (although not mentioned by Google Apps configuration) is that port 25 can be used to authenticate to smtp.gmail.com
All is working fine now.

Jeffr_ca - Are you saying you were able to configure AC with Google Apps?
Thank you,

Re: Google Apps with AC
Yes,
It appears to be working for me right now.
SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP Port: 25 Enable SSL is "ON"
SMTP Username and password combination as a valid Google Apps account
Use Authentication is "ON"
The test message works fine as well as brief tests I did with order "notes" being sent out to test email accounts.
It simply seems to be that you need to use Port 25 instead of Port 465 as stated by Google Apps set up for Outlook 2003.
