Volume Discount Question

Post by gregglbk » Mon Apr 28, 2008 2:34 pm

Hello,

This may have been asked and answered already but through search I could not find an answer. We would like to offer a buy 3 get one free (with a limit on value) either with volume discount or coupon.
I have set our store up to apply volume to category's and when I enter the information for a volume discount when the minimum qty is reached it apply's the discount to each item in the cart not just the total order. We would like to be able to set it up so if you buy three items from the same category a value (ie) $19.99 is subtracted from the total order. Is there some way that I am missing for doing this? Using coupons is OK with us or it could be done with volume either way. Any help you have would be great.

This may be what you're looking for. Go to Configure -> Store -> Volume Discounts

Below is a copy and paste from the config section:

When you assign a discount to a category, how should the products in the basket be counted? In "Line Item" mode, each product in the basket is checked individually to see whether it meets the total quantity (or value) required to receive the discount. In "Group by Category" mode, all products that belong to the discounted category are added together to determine eligibility for the discount.

This setting also impacts Global discounts. In Line Item mode, the behavior is as described above. In Group by Category mode, all products in the basket are added together when calculating the discount.

This setting does not impact discounts set to a specific product.

Discount Mode (Choose): Line Item OR Group By Category

Note that regardless of discount mode set above, products that have options are always combined. For example, if you purchase 1 red shirt and 1 blue shirt, this will count as 2 shirts when calculating discounts.

Psalty,

Yes I have set the store up to apply discounts to volume. The problem we are having is that when the minimum qty is reached in the category's included in the volume discount, the discount is applied to each line item. We would like to have it that when the qty is reached the discounted amount is removed from the total order not each line item. We have tried this with coupons also and with that you have to purchase the minimum qty of each line item , it does not group items across category's.

Any help from anyone would be great. We are getting ready to go live ad we really need this because most of our competition also uses this type of discount.

Thank you in advance.

All the discounts in my store are set up as line item, but I have a new category that I am selling rolls of tape and I want to give a discount to anyone that buys a minimum number of rolls of tape ( all of which are in the same category / subcategories), but I want to maintain the line item discount for the rest of the store. Is there a way to do make only one category do global discounts?

`thanks

I looked at that and it is listed 2 post before mine, but it appears to be an all or nothing global setting for the whole store.

You should be able to set which categories under the discount scope when editing the discount.

Yes, but the discounts are still applied on a per item basis.

you can't set $$$ discount and minimum quantity with this program. I tried. If you find it, please post. I tried to have it does as a plug in and was told it was not possible. I was able to do it with BV 2004..so go figure.

Have you assigned the discounts to categories, or directly to specific products?
