Website Search ability for SKU's not functioning

Hi,

I have been using this shopping cart since Feb this year. One thing I noticed was that the website search (not the seach in the admin) was not bringing up searches properly. If I searched for 26-123-1254 it would bring up all items with a 26 first, from the begining of the database. The only way I could find an item was to use the most unique part of the number (like to last part with the most numbers: 1254), and it would narrow down the number of items found.
This problem has been with us since Feb., and no known fixes seem to be available. I was not made aware when I bought this site that this was not working, it would have deterred me from purchasing it. Does anyone have this problem and are there any fixes being made for it. Again, the problem does not occur in the Order/Catalog manager seaches, only on the website that is visible to our customers. I need this resolved as soon as possible, it is causing a LOT of problems both for my customers and the workers who need to look up numbers using our web site.

I tried to test your described scenario in my local install of 7.0.4. Created two products with SKU 26-123-1254 and 26-123-1253. Then tried the simple and advance both searches from retail side with complete SKU and its listing only one product with proper SKU instead of two. It seems OK to me. Did you patched your store with service release for 7.0.4. I believe it has some search related fixes. I would suggest you to apply this patch and test it again.
