USPS Offline

Post by dc8johnson » Thu Oct 21, 2010 10:11 am

It looks like the USPS shipping estimator is offline at the moment. We have both USPS and UPS options for shipping from some of our stores. However, because USPS is currently offline, the OnePageCheckout is not going from billing/shipping address to the shipping method/payment step. If I look at the USPS debug logs I see send requests but no responses. I do see send/responses from UPS but the page isn't moving on to the payment step.

Also, if I run the shipping estimator on the Cart page it tries for a while but then seems to give up and never returns anything even though I see responses in the UPS log.

Thoughts?

We had that happen on a couple of sites yesterday. The only quick fix is to turn off USPS and use an alternate shipping method until it comes back up. Your rates might not be accurate, but at least customers will be able to check out.

Thanks Judy, it's good to know we weren't the only one affected.

Have you ever had this happen before? We were thinking of extending our site availability monitoring to include USPS and UPS availability, but if this hasn't happened before we'll make that a lower priority.

Thanks,

Yes, had that problem too and we did shut off the USPS options for a few hours. Maybe a nice feature add would be to more easily and quickly"disable" a shipping option.
