Tax being added to non-taxable addresses

Over the past couple of months we have seen an increasing number of orders- especially to one of our customers- have tax applied to the order even though the shipping address does not meet the criteria for taxing. We have been through the tax settings multiple times, and yet we cannot seem to get it working correctly. Can anyone be of help here?

I must revisit this, and the problem persists. It seems to be limited to only a few customers, but is a recurring thing that happens with no rhyme or reason. The customers that it happens to are a couple that we drop ship for, so they have many different shipping addresses used. What is odd is that the tax does not necessarily even calculate properly- on one order with a subtotal of under $11 there was over $24 in tax. We tried building a new account for them in case it was something that was carrying over from a past version, but that has not solved the problem.

We are still running 7.0.2.

Hi Rick,

Well, it's possible that your customer is experiencing some sort of bug. The version you are using is over two years old now.

Have you thought about upgrading? This is usually a good time of year to do that.

I have considered upgrading, but I believe we have some customized files that I had concerns about (ie. over-writing our changes, or the old file not being compatible, leaving us needing to re-write our changes). Actually, that is the ony reason that we have not already upgraded.
