Refining simple Search...

I have a client that has brought it to my attention that the simple Search pulls up more than desired. As an example, lets say the user searches for WATER, the search will bring up items that have water in other words, such as waterproof. The customer would like it to just pull up items that have WATER, as they have many products that are waterproof, but don't want those to show unless WATERPROOF is searched for.

Any thoughts?

You could try turning FTS off. On 7.0.6 sites I have worked on, the new search does so much better. I think every merchant wants things tweaked little differently as far as things like word stemming, fuzziness.
You can tweak that and make your own search from the Able source code.
