Partial Shipments; Process & Email Template

Post by dejoux » Fri Apr 02, 2010 1:17 pm

I must be missing something, but, I cannot see where it is possible to simply edit order shipments and communicate to the customers on what has been shipped and what has not been shipped on orders with multiple items or quantities.

Example: 4 products ordered with a quantity of 10 each. 1 of the products become discontinued before the order is filled, and another becomes out of stock before the order is filled
Company Policy is to refund all missing items immediately.

Nothing allows such an adjustment in the system, without losing the history of the products and quantities ordered (except for Order and Delivery notes - and this opens the door for many human errors and future problems). Also, the customer's email only provides an email showing products as shipped (shipment 1 of x - and - shipment y of x).

Customers need an email advising:
Items Shipped
Product A (Qty=10)
Product B Qty=8)
Product D (Qty=10)

Items Not Shipped:
Product B (Qty=2)
Product C (Qty=10)

Does anyone have a procedure dealing with partial shipments and how to communicate clearly in the Order Shipped or Order Partially Shipped emails? And, is their an email template out there that addresses this situation?

Thank you,
Charlie

Why dont you change the quantity ordered to zero, or the price to zero then leave a note on the account? I do understand what you are saying, but as of now there is no way I am aware of for doing this. Sounds like a fun project though and something that would be useful in many situations. I'll dig into it and see what I can find. It may take a few weeks till I can get to it.

This sounds like it could be a very useful feature. Has anything come of this?
