Widgets

Post by kwikstand » Fri Jul 05, 2013 1:22 pm

I am trying the trial version to learn how to set up my store before upgrading from 7.0.7

I am having trouble making some widgets appear in the left column. The Simple Category won't show. Neither does the Subscribe to Email list.

Also, is there a way to put custom widgets in a sidebar? I would like to use my email providers code, Mail Chimp. In my current stire, I simply added HTML to a sidebar, but with Gold, it seems I need a "widget".

Thanks,

Scott

Scott,

Can you make a copy of an existing control (like "SocialMediaLinksDialog.ascx") and modify it with the Mail Chimp code? These are in the \ConLib\ folder. Once you have your own custom control, you can add it through the layout editor interface.

Some controls (widgets) are not going to display in certain cases. The Subscribe to Email list control would need to have a public list created via the admin first. The Simple category is intended to show nested categories under the selected category, so if there are none, it won't display. Be sure to read the descriptions, and then it might make a little more sense.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I might be able to do that. I can't with the online demo as I don't have FTP capability. I will try it witht the downloaded local version when I get some time. I am not a programmer, so I hope I can muster through it.

I think I see what you mean about the categories. I looked at my current store. It shows categories that are beneath the "bread crumbs" list. This brings up another question.
When I created products over time, I sometimes did it under a under a main category and then sometimes under a subcategory. This may be because as my product offering grew, I saw the need to make subcategories. For example I have some work pants originally created under "work wear / work clothes" and then some under "work clothes>>work pants". I guess this is why I was confused. Some of my pants products show the category on the left and some don't because they are listed under the lowest category "work pants". The bread crumbs is different as well. You can see this: These pants were originally created under the "work wear" catgeory

and these were created under "work pants" http://www.contractors-solutions.net/br ... pants.aspx

Although they are both currently listed in the work pants category, the category tree and bread crumbs are different.

Is there way to change this and make them all consistent?
