Ready to Go Live! How To / What's Next?
Ready to Go Live! How To / What's Next?
My new Gold site, which has been in development for nearly 2 months now, is finally ready to go live. Is there a step-by-step procedure to apply my production license and make the necessary changes in IIS for a smooth DEV >PRODUCTION cutover? Also, how can I keep access to my old site (running Able Commerce 5.5) up and running for a while (but not publicly - just for my reference only)? TIA for any guidance!

Re: Ready to Go Live! How To / What's Next?
Hello,
That's a bit difficult to answer specifically due to variations in hosting setups. However when we do a live site cut over we like to move the IP address from the previous site to the new site so there isn't a delay in the cut over due to DNS propagation.
1. Move the ip to the new site.
2. delete the commercebuilder.lic file from the app_data folder, then hit the site and it will prompt you to enter the license key for your live domain.
At that point the new site should be live, it's been so long since I've played with 5.5 I can't remember the details of keeping the legacy site live after the move. You may have to remove the store key so it will respond to any domain in demo mode.

Great, thanks! Yes, I'll need to keep the IP from the old site anyway due to my SSL cert which needs a dedicated IP in my IIS 7 installation, apart from the shared IP we've been developing on. Wish me luck! I'll keep this thread posted!

I just did a 5 to Gold upgrade and the old site admin was still live because it used a different url and the Gold database was a different database.
