For those that are doing IRS / sales tax correctly, you are aware of NEXUS laws. I posted the suggestion at http://ablecommerce.uservoice.com/forum ... y-province regarding the need for a report but I want to post here as I need to escalate how critical this data is. I sell apps through Apple and soon to add in-app billing through Google and if you saw the reports they provide you'd understand what AC should provide as well. AC developers or AC themselves may not be aware of nexus requirements yet may be responsible for this themselves and not be aware as happened to me. You have to know about nexus laws based on where people reside that work for you and if they establish a nexus for your business. If so, you may be required to pay taxes etc. as a result and now you'll need great detail on all of your sales. AC does NOT provide this information at this time and I cannot stress the importance of this level of reporting.
We need to be able to generate proper financial reports from AC that show sales details by country/province. For example, I need sales details for each state in the US and be able to break that down by vendor or even at the product level to determine taxes due. Please understand the requirements we have as merchants and put effort into your reporting so we can get this detail out properly.
Thank you.

I want to make sure I understand what is required. Currently, you can view a tax report that is filtered by Country, State, or Zone.I need sales details for each state in the US and be able to break that down by vendor or even at the product level to determine taxes due.
Earlier, someone said it was necessary to show the total amount of sales as well as the tax amount. This was missing, and will be added in R8.
It sounds like you need the tax report to includes a Vendor filter?
If you check this link, it will show you the latest tax report filters available in Gold R7 -

Re: NEXUS: Sales report by Country / Province - MUST HAVE
Katie,
What I have needed and haven't seen, keep in mind I'm not running GOLD yet so I am not totally familiar with the reports other than my preliminary review of R7, is a report that gives sales breakdown by Country/Province. I get a monthly report from Apple for in-app purchases that give a detailed break down by Country/Province such as US / DE x.xx, US / MI x.xx CA / ? x.xx. They know we are responsible for handling taxes therefore they give us the breakdown of all sales so we can calculate the taxes. We don't have the option of setting up tax rules. For AC I may get asked for sales data as happened to me with a particular state later to learn there is nexus because I have a sub-contractor that helps with sales/support from that state. In the whole process I had nothing other than a program I wrote myself to determine for that state for various years what were the sales. And if needed a break down by particular products, in my case tangible vs. non-tangible goods. I think in summary if we had a report that showed detailed sales by region (Country / Province (State) is what I'm seeing) it would address this. The "nexus" thing is new to me, and it seems like various tax laws are changing as you know for the internet and with the internet having companies and staff spread around nexus is going to become more and more of an issue. I'm already working with my accountant to determine all the states I have staff in where is nexus going to hit. I could not get the numbers required from AC (as described above) as I had to write a program with a pivot-table type analysis to get what I needed, by year, etc.

We also had a recent "surprise" with the Nexas laws in Florida. It almost seems unfair that states can declare a right to tax your sales when someone is working from home. I can understand it if we had a traveling sales person going around the state to get new business, but in our case (and it sounds like yours too), these are just employees who work from home and have no impact on generating new sales for the area they live in. Try to explain that to the state tax authority and you'll get no where of course.
So, anyway...I just wanted to say that I believe the tax report you need is already in Gold. We recently added the ability to filter the tax report by country and state, or even by a defined zone. This should get you the information you need when you sell taxable goods through the store.

Exactly Katie, agree on all counts. I'll check further into GOLD when I get it going hopefully with R8 and let you know if I need more. All this mess really makes running a business less and less appealing as it's so time intensive, small biz's trying to do things right is overwhelming.

Re: NEXUS: Sales report by Country / Province - MUST HAVE
Katie,
One thing to keep in mind is that when you get a "love note" regarding NEXUS you don't have taxes setup for that state at that time. In my case with Michigan I have to go back from 2010 forward and get a break down of all sales in the state of MI and also by products as not all products are affected by their sales and use tax. When designing your reports please keep this scenario in mind to help us datamine our AC data.
