Root on the menu?

This may sound like stupid question, but what is the "Root" category for? I have it locked; set to private.

Where do you see a "root" category?

In "Manage Categories". It has always been there.

There is no single root category in Able Gold. A root category is designated by the fact the ac_Category record has the parentId value set to 0.

It must be something created by a user, because the default Able Gold install does not include a category called "Root".

I first noticed it sometime ago after an upgrade, it was probably to AC7. I did not create such a category. Here you can see it near the bottom. Within the Root category there is "Privacy Policy", "Return Policy", "Shipping Policy" and others. I was never sure why "Root" was there.

Yup, just another category like all the others. Somebody created it at some point.

Looks like it was used to hold some content pages. That's the old 7.x way of doing it before the Web Pages feature was added.

We always just called it "Content Pages" and marked it hidden. Root feels a bit...ambiguous lol.

Probably should make sure those policy pages are still rendering on the site now that you've locked the category holding them.

When we do an upgrade from Able 7 to Gold, we will at times see a Root category. I think we might have seen it in Able 5 to Able 7 also, but that was so long ago I might not be remembering correctly. I assumed it was because of some anomaly in the data, like orphaned products, and Able put them into the Root folder. I just never spent time looking for "why".
