Kits and Disable Purchase

Looks like this was a topic back in 2012, but it's become an issue when moving from 7.0.3 to GOLD. I commented on that thread, but wanted to make sure it was in the gold discussion as well because it's become an issue:

"How do we change it back to allow items to be set to disable purchase and be part of kits? We have many, many items that are setup like this and it's going to be a real pain identifying them and changing them. Since it was allowed in earlier versions (and all of our kits are setup this way), is there a way to change this to allow for kit items to have disable purchase set? This would allow anyone who has it setup this way in earlier versions to have a much smoother transition to Gold. "

We set them this way so the individual kit components couldn't be purchased, which looks like was AC intention in earlier versions.

THE PROBLEM IN GOLD:

Right now all of our kit items Disable Purchase set. In Gold, checkout cannot even be completed when one of these items in the basket. When a kit is added to basket with an item that has Disable Purchase set, there is an error that says "The item Intel CoreTM 2 Duo Processor (4MB Cache,2.66GHz), as part of Build-your-Own Computer, is no longer available. The item Build-your-Own Computer has been removed from the basket." -- but nothing is actually removed, if you try to proceed to checkout, the error just duplicates and you're stuck until you manually remove the item from the basket. This is even the case when other non-kited items are in the basket, where you're stuck on the basket page until the kitted item is removed from the basket.

I'm noticing more issues once the error above is occurs. It seems to get stuck on the basket page until the item is manually deleted from the basket. As an example, looking at the basket screenshot above (not sure if this is an issue with mini basket, as we're not using it), the build your own computer is part of a kit that has an item that has purchase disabled. The color ink cartridge is just a regular item, not part of any kit. Since the build your own computer was added to the cart with one item that has disable purchase set, the error occurs. Until the build your own kit is manually removed, you are stuck on the basket page. If you click on the link to Color Ink Cartridge, it stays on the basket page, click keep shopping and it stays on the basket page.. If you click on the home link it take you to the home page but then any link you click on in the navigation takes you back to the basket page.

I tested this on a demo store and I'm still seeing the issue. To reproduce, go to this demo store and do the following:

Now try to click on the Universal remove link. Doesn't go, stays on basket. Do the same with Keep Shopping or checkout and you'll see it doesn't go anywhere.

Now click on the home button and it will take you to the home page, but if you click on any product or category link from the home page it just takes you back to the basket. This happens until The build your own is manually deleted from the basket.

I'm going to submit a bug on the part about being stuck in the basket. I have had that happen before when I have been troubleshooting, but I can't remember if it was in relation to kits or not. It seems like if an item "has been removed from the basket" it should be removed from the basket so the customer can keep shopping.
