Customer can not use their email

when customers are trying to create an account, the system is saying email is not valid. The dont already have an acct. Able Gold 7

There isn't much information to go on. How are they trying to create an account? Is the email address valid? Can you reproduce this yourself, and if yes, what email address are you using? Has the customer ordered before? Do you have guest checkout enabled, and if yes, did the customer previously try to order as a guest?

What is the exact error message and where does the error appear?

In at least one site that was ancient, I think it started with Able 4xx, the email fields were set to use the field type of char or varchar- I don't remember which. That was padding the emails with empty characters at the end of the email address. Once I changed the field type, the emails weren't a problem.
